Introduction
The Transportation theme includes a variety of transportation-related datasets ranging from roads, mileposts, bridges, and other structures associated with roads to trains, trails, and airports. This TWG works towards data standardization across the State, making authoritative datasets available to everyone and working on issues that impact GIS professionals in Idaho that create or use transportation related data.
Vision
Provide GIS and other users in Idaho with easy to find, authoritative and well documented GIS layers for transportation-related datasets that are used by GIS- and other professionals both for cartographic and analytic purposes.
To realize this vision members of the Transportation TWG will work towards identifying authoritative, or best available, statewide data for Idaho and make this data available in a way that is easy to find and in a format that supports most users of the data.
Goals
We will implement the vision by:
- Identify authoritative transportation-related datasets besides soils that should be included in The Idaho Map. Once identified work towards developing a standard describing the data, a workflow to keep the data updated and available to other users as well as nominate the data for inclusion in the Idaho Map.
- Work with other Technical Working Groups and Interest Groups where Transportation data relates to other datasets either because of shared standards, or shared locations.
- Support the coordination of data collection, processing and dissemination where needed. Build a community of professionals with knowledge of, and interest in, transportation data.
- Identify trends and issues regarding transportation that may impact the GIS community in Idaho.
